If there is one place to go and browse thousands of available wedding invitation styles, then the Internet is it!  But it can also be overwhelming to see all the options.  Important – remember while browsing to look at the details of the invitation set and not just at colors and style.  Keep your situation in mind.  Will you be mailing the invitations?  Or is hand delivery the way that you want to go?

Your wedding invitations are special and you want them to suite your occasion – whether formal, casual or just plain fun!  Aside from design, be sure your invitations carry all the information your guest will require in order to be prepared properly for your big day!

One of the most popular DIY areas when it comes to weddings are invitations.  There are many reasons to make your own wedding invitations.  Whether the bride-to-be wants something original, personal, unique, handmade or just wants to save money.

Make your own wedding invitations really pop with glitter, confetti or sequins.  Dazzle potential guests with your charm or elegance by attaching  personal photos or pearls to the parchment paper.    Use shaped hole punches!  Personalized ribbon or layering the paper between the cover and printed page make a nice affect.  Many brides-to-be have used lace or satin material in their invitation packets.  This is especially nice for hand-delivered invitations.

Making Do It Yourself Wedding Invitations Unique

There are many reasons for purchases DIY wedding invitation kits.  For some, it’s a less expensive way to go, others want to be creative and enjoy being involved in the process, and still others, want the invitations to be their own – unique like the couple.  Now, if you want total originality, I suggest you make your own invitations, but if you want wedding invitations that look like they were personally created just for you – for less $ – read on!

Do it yourself wedding invitations are available in many styles, themes, colors…choose your kit and follow the step by step directions for printing.  Then, the fun begins!  (Yes, the invitation pictured has a scull charm on the ribbon!)  My friend had a fairy tale theme wedding.  She chose a neutral invitation kit in her wedding colors and then used decorative stamps to decorate them.  She completed the look by attaching a horse drawn carriage charm to the top of the invites with ribbon.  The ribbon was imprinted with “… And They Lived Happily Ever After” on it.  But the invitations don’t have to be theme oriented.  I’ve seen mementos attached as well.  A couple that met at a theme park attached buttons with the logo on them to their wedding invitations.  What a great item for the scrapbook!

My friend bought a wedding invitation kit but added style all her own to it (pretty much by accident!)  She took professional reprints of her and her fiance’s engagement photos, puncheda hole thru the top and tied it the invitation with personalized ribbon.  She also added glitter to the edges.  It looked much nicer than the versions of the photo that she tried to print from the computer directly onto the invitation paper.

So, make your own wedding invitations!  It can be as simple as what my friend did or as elaborate as taking a professional art or craft course for the sole purpose of creating your own wedding invitations.  Making your own invitations is a great idea especially if your wedding will be a very special or unique theme.  Have fun with it!

It can be very fun (and even more time consuming) browsing available wedding invitations – colors, themes, styles, etc.  Unfortunately, many a bride-to-be will not leave enough time to order and receive, put together and mail her wedding invitations to give their guests enough notice and time to return their RSVPs!

Even more often, especially during the popular times of year to get married, a bride-to-be will finally choose the perfect wedding invitations only to be told they are back-ordered or out-of-stock.  Whether ordering your invitations from a printer or DIY, remember; it typically hurts more to wait too long to order your invitations then it does to order them early!

Not that receiving an invitation to your wedding wouldn’t be exciting enough, but nothing would inspire an instant smile faster then opening an invitation with a photograph (or several) of the happy couple.

Photo-personalized wedding invitations can showcase your professional engagement photograph or several photos in a sort of collage of your pre-wedding day lives together.  Showcase your “couple-style” using professional, funny, creative, classy or dramatic images and invitation design.

There’s nothing quite like seeing your names printed on invitations, engraved on wedding accessories and even embossed on your unity candle for the wedding ceremony.  I just have one piece of advice in regards to personalization – check the spelling once, twice and even three times!

Many wedding shops will not allow you to return personalized items. So check and double check accuracy before submitting your order. (If the misspelling is the shops mistake it should not cost you anything to havethe item(s) replaced.  Also, be sure to allow enough time between your event and ordering personalized items.  It generally takes longer to process personalized items as it is, but heaven forbid you need enough time to have them redone!  There are so many beautiful wedding items that can be personalized aside from your wedding invitations - your unity candle, wedding favors, bridal jewelry and wedding ceremony accessories.

Going green or earth-friendly has become an increasingly popular trend in the United States.  Going green can be part of environmentalism, politics, ecology, or nature conservationism, feminism, or many other movements.  Many industries have been revolutionized by the green movement, including the wedding industry.

Green weddings are becoming more and more common, and do it yourself wedding invitations are the natural beginning of the whole process.  Printing invitations, RSVP cards, place cards, stationery, and thank-you notes on recycled paper stock is one easy way to make your wedding greener.

Your “do it yourself” wedding doesn’t have to mean that you baked your own wedding cake from scratch!  One of the easiest (with a big impact) “tricks of the trade” for bringing it all together is taking something simple and placing it subtly everywhere.  For instance?  Ribbons, bows, rhinestones, pearls, beads or flowers are the most commonly used.

Purchase ribbon in the color or two that you will use throughout your wedding and place strategically: Tie ribbon around your card box, pin it on your wedding accessories, wrap your centerpieces or favors and even attach to your wedding invitations.  Not only will you create a unified look but you can take credit for gasps and praise from your guests!
