Green Wedding Invitations

Going green or earth-friendly has become an increasingly popular trend in the United States.  Going green can be part of environmentalism, politics, ecology, or nature conservationism, feminism, or many other movements.  Many industries have been revolutionized by the green movement, including the wedding industry.

Green weddings are becoming more and more common, and do it yourself wedding invitations are the natural beginning of the whole process.  Printing invitations, RSVP cards, place cards, stationery, and thank-you notes on recycled paper stock is one easy way to make your wedding greener.

Wether you print your own, or purchase near perfect wedding invitations, a DIY touch is to add rhinestones, stamps, ribbon or rafia.  It makes such a big difference for just a little extra effort.

You can DIY – do it yourself wedding invitations, save the dates and wedding programs!  Design everything in your own unique style and personality. Then find creative ways to display them - such as this wedding program hung from each guest chair (pictured).  Remember, you can also make your own placecards, table numbers and centerpieces to match!

Tips for Cheating on DIY

Your “do it yourself” wedding doesn’t have to mean that you baked your own wedding cake from scratch!  One of the easiest (with a big impact) “tricks of the trade” for bringing it all together is taking something simple and placing it subtly everywhere.  For instance?  Ribbons, bows, rhinestones, pearls, beads or flowers are the most commonly used.

Purchase ribbon in the color or two that you will use throughout your wedding and place strategically: Tie ribbon around your card box, pin it on your wedding accessories, wrap your centerpieces or favors and even attach to your wedding invitations.  Not only will you create a unified look but you can take credit for gasps and praise from your guests!

Why, Now A Days Anything Goes!

Though there is nothing wrong with a bride who is all about tradition, these days are often about originality, bold colors and unique themes, favors and/or decorations.  Celebrating a marriage can literally include a circus, carnival or petting zoo!

Every couple wants a wedding day full of fun and memorable moments.  Perhaps even a an exciting adventure for you and your guests!  Just be sure that’s what you and your other half REALLY want.  The time planning and money you spend on your wedding day should ultimately incorporate you and your fiance’s dream components – not anyone else’s.  There are many ways to make your wedding day special and unique to you without going over board.  You could concentrate on just one unique component for your wedding, such as horse drawn carriage rides or a theme photo booth at your reception, or you could make your own wedding invitations or favors.  Have your wedding reception outdoors at a theme park, winery, resort or on the beach.

Inspiration: Make Your Own Wedding Invitations

You may be searching for some inspiration for DIY wedding invitations, or perhaps it didn’t even occur to you that you could make your own wedding invitations.  I assure you that you can make your own wedding invitations, especially with the aid of a good invitation kit and a little inspiration from your Fairy Godmother!

Have a theme for your wedding or not?  It doesn’t matter, but if your special day is going to be casual, semi-formal, or formal you’ll want your wedding invitations to reflect that (and if you do have a theme, there’s no harm in incorporating it!).    If you purchase a DIY kit, upon opening it up and reading the directions, you may feel a little overwhelmed.  Blank white (or colored) paper may be staring at you.  However, don’t ask yourself what you got yourself into – browse the Internet!

Clip Art may be fun, but I find a more personal touch may be called for.  After all, it’s your wedding day!  This is where a computer comes in great handy!  Your favorite couple photos, whether a professional engagement photo or just a fun beach photo where you look smokin’ could be appropriate.  Maybe a couple photo and a childhood photo each?  Don’t forget to add glitter, sparkles or confetti to the envelope if the occasion calls for it.  Tie it all nicely together with personalized ribbon or seals.

DIY-BrideI have been seriously weighing the pros and cons (and enjoyment factor!) on not only planning but also creating alot of my own wedding.  I am amazed at the information available out there for the Do-It-Yourself Bride.

Beginning with do it yourself wedding invitations, to DIY decorations, favors and even wedding day hair!  Now, I’m pretty creative and love to design my own EVERYTHING, but I never though my wedding day hair would be an option.  BRIDES magazine this month features a soft upsweep step by step.  What a fantastic way to save some of my wedding budget and put it where I have no intention of “doing it myself”.  In my case, that will be my gown!

snowflake-invitations‘Tis the season for winter weddings, be it around the Christmas holidays or a Valentine’s day delight! With these magical winter weddings comes the need for winter wedding invitations!

Personally, a snowflake design is my favorite type of winter wedding invitations.  I know they seem like an obvious choice, but I can’t help it.  Snowflakes are subtle, yet lovely reminders of life’s little wonders.  And if your wedding theme is winter or holiday related or not, snowflake design will compliment a traditional, vintage, modern or colorful theme!

DIY Calligraphy for this Bride!

Wedding-Calligraphy

I’m the kind of girl who loves DIY anything and everything!  I’ve always loved the look of calligraphy, or fancy handwriting, but I didn’t want the computer printed font look so I started doing some looking around.  I found a local artist who was willing to do the calligraphy on my invitations and place cards.  Even though her work was absolutely beautiful it seemed a bit pricey and of course, I wanted to do it myself!

It turns out she was willing to give me calligraphy lessons and we completed my do it yourself wedding invitations and place cards as the final lesson.  They were truly individual works of art! They came out beautifully and I got to tell everyone that “I did that”!
