Determine your desire for quality when it comes to your wedding ceremony and reception decorations and accessories. Are some of these items things you will only use for one day? You may consider renting certain items, such as the ceremony decorations and candles or the cake knife and server used at your wedding reception. For the ceremony and reception items that you would like to last as memorable keepsakes, such as your wedding guest book, unity candle, wedding day jewelry, reception cake top and bridal garter, you may wish to start browsing now and allow plenty of time to find just the right pieces!

When deciding what company to purchase your wedding accessories from, whether locally or an online store, try to get an idea of the quality of workmanship of the products they offer by retrieving samples or doing research on the item’s manufacturer. For instance Cathy’s Concepts, Lillian Rose, Hortense B. Hewitt, Fashion Craft and Wedding Star are all well-known, top providers of wedding accessories. Also, you may wish to consider shopping at a location that provides many options or is a specialty in your chosen theme.  Next, consider the quality of the customer service provided by the company you will order your accessories from.  Are they readily available?  Do they have fair policies? Order your items in plenty of time of your wedding, that way if you need to return or exchange an item because you are unhappy you will have time to do so.

cinderella-invitationsThough there may be thousands upon thousands of invitation colors and styles to chose from, there are really only three wedding invitation types, or categories. These categories are formal (or traditional), informal and contemporary. Formal invitations are typically white, ivory or cream with black lettering. Informal may be handwritten or pre-printed and Contemporary is pretty much everything else, considered different or modern. There are different types of printing as well, engraving is the most expensive and takes the longest time to complete.  These are also the most regal wedding invitations. If you would like to go with informal, you may utilize the services of a calligrapher or even print your own invitations on your home printer. Consider the style of wedding that you are having when choosing the type of wedding invitations. If you are planning a grand ball then homemade invitations may not be the best match.

After creating your guest list, take the number of guests into consideration before choosing a more expensive avenue. Remember that every guest over the age of 16 should get their own invitation. You’ll also want to double check spellings of names and addresses are correct.

brides-bouquetWhen looking for ways to cut costs on your wedding expenses, flowers are both the one area you don’t want to scimp but that may have room to cut on cost.  If you have friends or relatives in the floral business, now is the time to call on favors!  If you don’t, here are some ideas for cutting costs without looking like you did.  The cost of some flowers may be significantly higher during their off-season so try to select flowers that are in bloom and plentiful at the time of your wedding. Avoid exotic flowers. If  you have a favorite flower that is costly or out of season, consider using silk for that one flower.  Also, the floral headpiece or flower girl baskets petals may be made of silk.

Allow your florist to emphasize your wedding colors using more reasonable, seasonal flowers to achieve the overall look.  Try to avoid scheduling your wedding on holidays such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day as the price of flowers are higher. Also keep in mind that every attendant will carry or wear flowers, consider keeping the size of your wedding party down to accommodate your floral budget.

If you’re trying to plan a wedding, you have probably realized by now how difficult it can be. Many people enter into a wedding thinking it will just require a few phone calls, but coordinating that kind of large party has so many contingencies and details to handle. Especially if you want that perfect wedding, pulling off every detail can seem like a fulltime job. And with so many brides and grooms trying to work fulltime jobs at the same time, it can be a little overwhelming.

Under the Wedding Cake Top

Author: Wedding-Planner

initials-cakeA very popular wedding tradition (some may call it a superstition) is to save the top tier of your wedding cake to share on your first year anniversary.  This top tier should be removed before the cake is cut, placed inside a plastic container, and kept frozen until your anniversary. This is something to keep in mind when determining the size of your wedding cake and how many tiers you would like to have.

It is also important to consider the weight of your wedding cake top as it may need to be anchored into the cake. If you are planning to purchase your own cake top, let your baker know. Try to have it enough in advance of your wedding that you can give it to them in plenty of time before your big event!

Invitations not only inform your guests of the date, time, location and hosts of the wedding, they set the tone for your entire celebration. Your invitation may also include the time and location of the reception.

Mail announcements six weeks before the wedding and be sure to have your wedding invitations weighed at the post office to determine the proper postage. It’s also a good idea to include the cost of postage in your wedding budget.
