Fairy Tale Wedding Cake Toppers

Castle-Cake-BlueIf you’re looking for a theme for your wedding or just the cake, here are some ideas of inspiration:  Princess tiara or a crown, doves, swans, roses, hearts, frog prince, turtles, dragons, knights in shining armor, a prince on his white steed putting a hand down to his lady, a prince and princess dancing, stars, a glass slipper, a pumpkin coach, or a horse and carriage, a crystal ball, or a character cake toppers from any of the classic or modern Disney fairy tales, cartoon characters such as Mickey and Minnie or even Taz, characters from movies such as  A Nightmare Before Christmas, Shrek and Alice In Wonderland.

If you know what type of cake top you want and can’t find the perfect fairy tale “cake topper” then the cool thing to do is be creative.  A plastic toy, ceramic figurine or salt and pepper shaker set  can easily be made into fairy tale wedding cake toppers!  Anything lightweight enough to sit on top of a cake is fair game. Of course, it’s not just about the cake top. A shaped cake can also reflect a fairytale. I’ve seen beautiful princess and the pea and Alice In Wonderland themed cakes! You may also consider icing text wrapped around your cake stating “Once Upon A Time” . . . or . . . “And They Lived Happily Ever After” or any number of romantic fairytale verbiage. Talk to your cake baker about shapes, styles, text and what they can craft from fondant.

New Wedding Decorations – Personalized Dance Floor Decals

bride-groom-dancingEver heard, “It’s all in the details?” Today there are so many available “details” that add not only that special touch, but can help create the most magnificent grand ball room out of an ordinary, might we even say, drab facility rental.  Items that help a bride on a budget be able to choose the important places to spend her budget and not have to leave anything desired out.  A bride having her wedding reception at the local fire hall because of it’s convenient location can spend the money saved on renting a grand estate on wedding decorations that make it possible to hide the flaws of the sapce and focus on its features.

One of my favorite newly available wedding decorations are elegant, personalized dance floor decals.  They come in many color combinations and styles.  A clever, yet subtle way to awe guests at every turn of the head is to provide the small details in unexpected places.  These dance floor decals certainly hit that mark!  Finally, keep in mind that a little gossamer and tulle will not only hide visually unnappealing areas but purchasing rolls of these beautiful fabrics are also much cheaper then renting the taj mahal for your reception.  They come in so many colors, prints and styles that there is sure to be one that matches your theme or space.

The Right Ring Bearer Pillow

ring bearer pillow

Just picture your wedding day: You walk down the aisle, meet your groom, and the ceremony begins. The most exciting part comes when the ring bearer presents the rings. Maybe you and your groom have carefully chosen rings together, or they’re a wonderful surprise. Either way, your wedding rings symbolize your everlasting love for each other and you’ll wear them for the rest of your lives. The ring bearer pillow should be something that shows off your beautiful rings so they take your breath away when you see them at the altar.

The ring bearer pillow is most often white, but you can choose from many different designs. To go along with a fairy tale theme, choose a pillow that reads, “And they lived happily ever after…” in cursive script. Personalize your pillow with monogrammed initials, or select one that is trimmed in lace or chiffon for a romantic look. No matter what kind of ring bearer pillow you choose, the wedding rings will be the star of the show.

Groom Cake Ideas – A Fun Tradition

frogprincecakeA comical or hobby depicting theme makes the best Groom’s cakes.  Men typically appreciate a ”silly” or clever cake that their Bride surprises them with! Your Prince Charming will enjoy the break from all the “girlie wedding stuff” and it’s’ a lovely way to show him your appreciation for giving you the wedding of your dreams! Frog prince shaped cake or “Almost Perfect Frog Prince” cake topper?

Though a great cake baker can create nearly anything from scratch, producing an original masterpiece, a budget conscious bride may wish to bake the cake herself (with lots of love) or simply opt for a more simple cake and then purchase a cake topper that’s befitting to her groom-to-be.  Since Groom’s cakes have been traditional cut up and taken home as favors, cupcakes are an option as well.  Show him how much you love him with a Groom’s cake that “reflects him”.  What are his hobbies? Does he golf, hunt, fish? Does he adore his motorcycle? (No more than you, of course!)  Is he a beer or wine guy? Would he appreciate a cake that resembles his beloved or enjoy the humor in a “naughty” cake?

Fuchsia-Orange-CollectionI’m not sure where the first idea of uniting fuchsia and orange came from, but it was a brilliantly unexpected one!  You agree if you love bold colors. Of course fuchsia and orange aren’t the only awesome color combinations.  More subtle, yet still bright choices of bold wedding colors include yellow, orange, neon green and burgundy. Pair with dark purple, navy blue, black, white or ivory.

Pictured are some colorful wedding accessories in fuchsia and orange; a ring bearer pillow and guest book. Favor boxes in fuchsia, black and white. (Patterns are also a unique way to make a statement at your wedding!)  The bright flower arrangement pictured is an example of a bride’s bouquet for a fuchsia and orange theme wedding.

Castle-BookmarkTruly remind your guests about your storybook romance by giving them the gift of bookmark wedding favors!  With many options to choose from, your sure to find one that mirrors your story. For example the castle design bookmark favors pictured here are the perfect addition to a fairy tale theme wedding with the ”Happily Ever After” ending!

But that’s just the beginning!  A friend of mine loved The Secret Garden and held her wedding on a large estate with beautiful gardens, stone sculptures and fountains. Both avid readers, the wedding favors for their guests were beautiful, handmade bookmarks with a favorite quote from the book on each of them.  As well as a picture of the happy couple, their names and wedding date.  Another favorite for such a classy type of favor is any one of Jane Austin’s period romances.

Cake Topper Multiple Choice

CrystalPearlsCakeMuch like your invitations, your wedding cake top also has a proper “etiquette”.  There are many types of cake tops and though it is perfectly fine for you to select one that stands out all on it’s own, you still want it to fit into the desired ambiance of your wedding day.

You may choose from Traditional, Modern, Unique, Theme or Comical cake tops, but be sure to match your cake accessories, ornaments and / or cake topper to the theme as well as to the style of your cake. If your cake is classic, elegant and all white, a comical figurine may not be the best choice for the top centerpiece of your cake.  A more traditional bride and groom or love birds figurine, or perhaps engraved toasting glasses or a crystallized monogram atop the cake will work nicely.  A budget conscience bride may choose to have a colorful, smaller, less expensive cake but make it memorable with a boisterous or comical cake topper.

Your Fairy Tale Theme Party Needs A Castle!

Castle-LampWhat kind of celebration is a fairy tale theme without a castle?  Whether it’s a birthday party, anniversary or wedding reception for a beautiful princess and her prince – you gotta have the castle!

Though the above types of parties may be in celebration of very different occasions, the best elements of a good party are the same. You need to have good food and desserts, a cake, party favors and lots of decorations.  When you’re thinking about where to include the fairy tale castle some great suggestions include a castle cake topper, castle favors for your guests, castle candle lamps at each guest table, and / or a castle floral centerpiece at the gift or buffet table.  Choose the style castle based on the event. Party favors such as castle shaped candles or cookies, bookmarks or keychains make nice gifts.  Or simply attach a castle favor tag to a small bag of your favorite treat!

SpeakingRosePetalsA single stem rose that simply says “Thank You!”  Or roses with your names and wedding date printed on it’s petals and attached to an elegant favor box. Supply each guest with a rose in a monogram vase as a favor or perhaps make the favor roses into a centerpiece for each table.

“Speaking” roses are an excellent way to show your appreciation to your reception attendees. They are incredibly unique wedding favors on their own, or they can be attached to a small gift or treat as a favor decoration.  There are hundreds of uses for these nifty little flowers and your guests are sure to gasp and compliment them upon sight no matter how or where you use them at your wedding ceremony or reception party.  Consider speaking rose petals as a nice addition to your table decor like the one pictured here.
